The first Rail Trail in the Balearics is a recycled railway infrastructure used as a vehicle-free path that runs along part of the stretch of the former Inca-Artà railway. Although the historic train only joined towns in eastern Majorca, towards the middle of the journey it passed very close to the coast, presenting stunning views to the sea. In Son Servera it links with a cycle lane that goes down to the beaches of Cala Millor, Cala Bona and Costa de los Pinos. Access from it to the beaches of Llorenç des Cardassar (S’Illot, Sa Coma and Cala Millor), the Punta n’Amer Nature Reserve and the Península de Levante Natural Park is also easy.
This Rail Trail is a unique space where the contrast between the crop fields, unspoilt natural landscapes and attractive examples of historical and cultural heritage of the east of Majorca can be enjoyed. Along the 29 kilometres of track you can admire the Talayotic ruins in Son Servera and Artà and also countless historical monuments, buildings and the old historical centres of towns such as Manacor, Artà and Son Servera. Furthermore, the route has plenty of information panels with details about the flora and fauna that inhabits the surroundings.
As no motorised vehicles are permitted on the route, the corredor verd Manacor-Artà is one of the safest and most accessible tracks and one that is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. It can be done in varying stages, depending on each person’s ability and whether it is done on bicycle or foot.
The nearest access from Cap Vermell Estate is in Son Servera: the Rail Trail crosses Calle de Formentera. The cycle lane that goes down from Son Servera towards the beach zone joins with the Rail Trail for a few metres and can be accessed from a small park and the adult health circuit.
