Destination Canyamel

Canyamel, located in a heavenly setting in the north-east of Majorca, is one of the few remaining zones of the island that has escaped mass tourism.

In Canyamel, time seems to stand still. The valley, its meandering coastline of rocks and fine sand and its architectural monuments of incalculable value, transport its visitors to a distant past, speak of its history and portray the tranquil and unhurried evolution of the zone.

Canyamel is a typical Majorcan village, a peaceful paradise that has barely been explored, with a Blue Flag beach surrounded by mountains and pine woods. It is perfect for those who want to disconnect during their holidays in Majorca and also for those who are wanting to spend long periods there or live in a tranquil and secluded environment.

Origins of Canyamel

Sugarcane was grown in Canyamel during the 18th century, and this is where its name comes from: “canya” meaning “cane”, which also has the term “mel” added to it (“honey” in Latin and Majorcan). Tales and deeds abound in the history of its past, and the watchtowers that once served to defend against pirate attacks are still conserved to this day.

Torre de Canyamel

One of the architectural icons of the zone is Canyamel Tower, that dominates the valley through which the village is accessed. Built in the 13th century, it currently hosts concerts and cultural activities. At night time it is lit up, presenting a stunning luminous display that contrasts with the natural beauty of the valley. This is one of the most attractive sights that can be seen and admired from the luxury villas on the Cap Vermell Estate.

Mesmerizing sunsets

Cap Vermell is an impressive rocky outcrop that presides over the coast of Canyamel and offers a visual feast of reddy tones when the sun's rays hit the stone as dusk falls. Watching it is a real delight, as is enjoying the magnificent sunset that falls directly into the sea from the chill-out terrace of Cap Vermell Beach Hotel.

A destination to explore

In short, Canyamel is a place to be explored: to wander on its winding roads between the valley and the mountains to the crystalline waters of its heavenly beach; to let your imagination run away with its history of pirates and sugarcane; and also to find relaxation for your body and mind.

Maybe the reason the British call it “Caramel” is because it is a veritable bonbon of the Mediterranean.
